Introducing GainsLog: Stop Guessing, Start Progressing

This isn't a corporate fitness app built by a big organization. I built GainsLog because I needed it. As someone who's serious about training but also has a full life outside of the gym, I wanted a companion to ensure my training actually moves me forward in a way that maximizes the return on my invested time and effort.

I've spent the last few months building something I wish I'd had years ago, a workout app that doesn't just track what you did, but helps you decide what to do next.

I've been using different workout tracking methods pretty much since I first stepped into a gym. I still have some records from 2016. However, I've definitely not been continuously progressing since then - periods of progress followed by program hopping, plateaus due to lack of direction and intensity, and building up strength while bulking just to reset my progress during the following cut.

The Problem I Set Out to Solve

I've always been someone who enjoys tracking and optimizing stuff, it's probably why I became a data engineer. This has led to countless spreadsheet programs with smart formulas, color-coding, and drop-downs, built for myself and my guinea pig friends. But spreadsheets aren't practical mid-workout, and I prefer to keep everything in one place. So I tried different apps to find the one to solve these problems for me: RepCount, StrengthLog, RP Hypertrophy App, Strong, etc. Each got something right but none did it all. I wanted RepCount's ease-of-use, StrengthLog's programs, and RP Hypertrophy's progression system in a single app. That's why I built GainsLog.
